Winter Essentials + $525 Cash Giveaway

We've made it to the final stretch of the holiday season, y'all, and I could not be more excited to celebrate with friends and family this upcoming weekend. Are you all doing lots of traveling? If so, be safe!

The temperatures here in Chicago this last weekend officially felt a bit more like Winter with temps dropping into the upper 20's (yikes!). With the weather fluctuating so much this year, the search for suitable winter gear to help fight the elements has been more difficult than I might like.

There have been very few days this year I have needed to pull a down coat from the closet and even fewer days I have needed warmer winter snow boots.  We have seen a lot of rain, like today, and days where a light jacket with layers has seemed doable.  Investing in boots that can combat rain and snow, along with a jacket that can withstand the same, can be challenging to come by.  My wallet and I would prefer not to spend money on 2 pair of boots and two jackets.

With that said, you can imagine my relieve when I came across these plaid boots and leather trimmed jacket from Orvis.  The coat is a waxed cotton with leather trimming on across the back, elbow patches and pockets.  The lining doesn't feel bulky like my North Face down jacket of the same length, but provides all of the warmth necessary for very cold days.  The detachable, faux fur trimmed hat provides protection again strong, cold winds and rain, but can be removed on days when the weather is nice.

Last weekend, when the weather was very cold and windy, I could not feel a lick of dropping temperatures where the coat covered my body, but also wore it in Indianapolis this weekend where the weather was close to the mid-50's as a light jacket and was pleased to find I was not hot at all.

I found the same to be true for these great Bogs plaid lace up boots.  I read a lot of reviews before adding them to my cart as I wanted to make sure others found them not only to be comfortable, but also provide warmth.  As much as I love my Sperry duck boots, I have found my feet get pretty cold in them on cold winter days even with thick socks.  They have a stretch bootie made with wicking material to hold in warmth to -5 degrees F while keeping moisture away from your feet.  And, how cute is the plaid outer?  They are a new closet favorite!

    1. Right? It's hard to complain since we have been so lucky this year (I even hear New York will see 70 degrees XMas day this year - crazy!), but when it does get cold these essentials have been the savior! I hope you have a great holiday! XO

    1. I've been sayin'! I think I can hold out for Spring break if the temps remain above 50 - I think I'll even accept 40 at this point :) Hope to see you again soon! Happy holidays to you and the beau! XO

  5. Seeing the beautiful Chicago skyline in your photos gets me every time, Anna! Winter rain can be so dismal, but I guess that it's preferable to temperatures in the 20s - yikes. Either way, it looks like you have your winter weather wear completely covered. Love your boots :)
