Stripes + Florals

J.Crew Floral Skirt || J.Crew Striped Sweater || Coach Crossbody Bag (old, similar) || Ann Taylor Heels (old) || Daniel Wellington Watch c/o

I think you all know by now, I love a good mixed print combo. Whether it's stripes and florals, plaid and leopard, or polka dots and stripes I love mixing up great textures and prints for a pulled together look.

And, while I know winter just began, this is the time of year when I try to stop shopping winter attire and start concentrating on things I may want to invest in come early Spring (I know, I'm crazy to start thinking Spring already, right? Well, stick with me for a moment). We discussed this theory on the blog last year and I'll repeat my rational for you all again today.

If you haven't already seen the ads, Spring trends will soon hit the shelves of our favorite stores here in the coming weeks.  And, while I don't have any plans to start investing in shorts and tees, I do like to put careful thought and consideration into what I would be interested in buying over the next several months.  As much as I would like my closet to be filled with the latest styles each season, it's just not economical.

So, what I do this time of year is start to look at what trends will be popular during the Spring and Summer months (if you're following along on Pinterest as well, I have an entire board dedicated to Spring 2016 - be sure to head there for great styling tips - I add new content there almost every day). I then think long and hard about whether what I am purchasing over the next few months will still be suitable, and wearable, for the entire Spring and Summer season. Side note, if the item you're purchasing is a classic, meaning something you'll have in your closet for years to come as opposed to a seasonal trend (a great pair of black or nude heels, a leather jacket just to name a few), you have my approval to purchase.  :)

That's where the purchase of this skirt came in during a recent trip to J.Crew.  Bright, bold floral prints will be one of many great trends you'll see throughout stores this coming season.  With that said, I picked up this cute skirt just before Black Friday sales knowing I could style it now and again in the Spring and Summer.  If you read the Pumpkin Patch post from last Fall, you know my gorgeous girlfriend Daniela never lets me add something to my shopping cart unless I can quickly and easily answer the following question:

Can you quickly tell me three different ways you'll style this? Go!

If I cannot quickly do so then we know it's not a good fit - not for us, anyways.  Moving through this exercise has saved me on a ton of money on more occasions than I care to admit.

But, this was an item I knew I'd be able to thrown on with a number of things over the next several months.  For the cooler weather I have paired the skirt with a classic striped sweater (again, a classic that I know I'll be able to pull from my closet almost any time of year - including Summer nights on the beach, etc.). For the warmer months, a great silk cami for date night out with cute sandals or even a simple tee, denim jacket and flip flops will do for afternoon lunch with the girls.

What trends are you loving for the upcoming seasons? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Sunday!

XOXO,
Anna
